The online journal bringing to life the real experiences of a Project Professional.
As project professionals our success is dependent on the support we receive.
I'm sure you will all be aware of the saying 'a manager is only as good as their team', but what about the support networks across the wider business. By this I mean both horizontally and vertically throughout the organisational hierarchy. This may include peers, other project professionals, functional managers or specialists but none more so that our own line manager.
It is essential that we have strong support from our line manager.
As I go through my day to day business each day, each week, each month bring fresh challenges, many I may not have come across before. Therefore I look for direction, an ear to consult, someone to have my back when needed or maybe even just someone to blow off some steam to and help release that pressure. None of us can do this alone and in the same way that we as leaders provide this support to others, we need it also.
Contrary to popular belief we are not superhuman beings.
So make sure you build a relationship of trust with your line manager. One which is open and no subject is taboo. Organisations change, just as line managers do, therefore it is an infinite journey but you will go through it together, in the same way as you must with your own project team.
It will be worth the effort in the long run.
